An 109 year-old Scottish woman said one of the keys to her long life was staying away from men completely (also listed: regular exercise and a daily bowl of porridge). I’ve had similar conversations with my mother and when I asked about her “needs,” she replied “I’ve had more than enough of THAT. I just want somebody to pay these bills. Other than that, I don’t want to be bothered.”

I don’t even want to know how much sex one has to have before they’ve decided “That’s enough.” Good news is, I’ll have my mama around for at least another 35-40 years.

With the end of my favorite TV show, Sons of Anarchy and thus the end of Charlie Hunnam‘s weekly TV appearances, I have found a new show to obsess over. Vikings, which airs on the History Channel, is based on the historical rise of viking king Ragnar Lodbrok. It also happens to star Travis Fimmel who is a dead ringer for Charlie Hunnam. I watched twenty, hour-long episodes of this show in a span of two weekends. Travis Fimmel’s character is just as cunning, violent, and charming as Charlie’s Jax Teller (earning the character the nickname #VikingJax). I can’t wait until season three starts next month.

Honorable mention for #NewTVBoo is Stephen Amell, who plays Oliver Queen on Arrow.

At a work event, I overheard a conversation among male baby boomers about their struggles with retirement. “You build your career or a company from the ground up, and then they just want you to walk away. And do what? Go home? Your wife’s in charge there. You don’t really have anything after work.”

If there was ever an argument for work/life balance, that would be it. And I don’t just mean balancing work and kids/family, but balancing work and the things outside of work that add value to your life. Whatever they may be.

On an unrelated note: I have heard more talk of balls this week than I can handle.

It saddens me there’s no female symbol of defiance equivalent to Marshawn Lynch’s #HMD touchdown celebration.

This was my favorite thing on the internet this week.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Toni Braxton lately. She’s pretty much the muse for my 30s, starting with this video. Her whole short hair & bodycon swag from the 90s? Gimme.

I saw the following quote on the blog of my fellow Libra and birthday twin, Bre:

A few months ago I had the revelation that I am not an ambitious person. Which basically sticks me at the top of Maslow’s pyramid thus letting me know I have won at life.

This is the place I’ve been in since the beginning of the new year. I go to work and do the things I’m supposed to do, then come home and do what I want to do, whatever it is that day. No goals. No intentions. No Core Desired Feelings. Truly taking it one day at a time. It’s a great way to live.
